So here’s a question: who do we honour in history? I’m sure Society has determined who its Heroes should be. Who comes who comes to mind when we think of saving millions of lives? One would think that such a person might be worthy of recognition, and memorials to his or her name. Not so, and with no specified particular reason either. Just “No.”

What we responded to recently and gave great respect to was, quite simply put, a repudiation of some of our ancestors shenanigans. I’m sure many of those colonialist types that left the shores of Jolly Old England or La Belle France that were quite eager to make their name in foreign lands. That name was usually established upon the backs of the people they were kicking around. Understandably therefore we should certainly not honour them with a permanent or respected place in history. But here’s my question: what of a person like Fred Banting: remember him? You know: the guy that discovered penicillin.
